These clients in Darien, CT reached out to us because their home didn’t reflect their family’s unique character or meet their hard-working needs.
A relatively new home built ten years ago, it was shades of brown and beige from top to bottom and felt dark and dated.
They’d hired the general contractor, Executive Craftsman, and wanted to work with an interior designer who’d approach the home as a whole, not just work with one room at a time. Because they both love entertaining and are family-focused, they wanted a stunning open concept kitchen and a unified and functional first floor as their family relaxes, thrives, and lives life to the fullest, together.
All finishes were selected with young children in mind and we emphasized performance fabrics that could stand up to heavy traffic, while still being beautiful and comfortable.
The open concept kitchen features white oak, soft whites, and contrasting colors to create a neutral yet interesting space that’s light-filled and happy. The peninsula creates the perfect place for conversational seating and helps distinguish between the kitchen and breakfast nook.
In the family room, we needed to disguise a door that leads to the mudroom and laundry area, which was key to the functionality of their home but originally looked a little odd being right off the family room.
We created a wall of built-ins that provided an intentional pop of color to span in front of the door, disguising it as a cabinet door to mirror the cabinet door to the left of it.
We helped this client navigate a challenging timeline with ease, and make the important decisions they needed prior to leaving on an extended trip overseas while the work was being done on their home.
They love their family-focused, contemporary space with an open concept kitchen that allows them to embrace hosting friends and family and gives everyone a place to relax, gather, and feel at home.
“We’re so grateful to have found Lauren to help transform our traditional house to a warm and modern home for our family. By combining her great eye for design and thoughtful consideration for functionality, she was able to bring the vision we had for our home to life. We couldn’t be happier with the result! Lauren is very professional and extremely knowledgeable with respect to the design and build process, including regarding the latest products available on the market. Her capabilities also reflect on the network of vendors and contractors she is surrounding herself with and throughout the process we always felt we were in the most capable hands. The renovation was completed swiftly and timely (!) and meeting the highest standards – all this under the close supervision of Lauren, as we spent our time overseas during this process. Above all, Lauren is just a wonderful person and an absolute pleasure to work with. Highly recommend her!”
